AUSTIN — State Rep. Four Price will be honored today for working on legislation that benefits rural hospitals.

“Rep. Price stepped up to the plate and helped rural hospitals during the last legislative session when they needed help,” said David Pearson, President and CEO of the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals.

“He recognizes the importance of rural hospitals to the state’s health care system and knows that even if you don’t live in a rural area, you may need a rural hospital someday,” Pearson said. “You could be driving across the state and become involved in an accident.”

Price and House colleague Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, were the only lower chamber members to receive the award this year, said Don McBeath, director of government relations at TORCH.

“We had a lot of people who worked very hard and were very sympathetic to rural hospitals but Reps. Kolkhorst and Price were extra special,” said McBeath, a former Lubbock County judge.

As a member of the budget-writing House Appropriations Committee, Price pushed for desperately needed funding that helped rural hospitals, even though his House District 87 represents only two rural hospitals, McBeath said.

Price said he is honored to receive the award.

“Rural hospitals face significant challenges,” Price said. “Anything I can do to help I gladly do it.”
