Texas 87th District Representative Four Price continues to see his role in Austin grow. As his influence in Austin grows, so does that of the 87th District.

On Tuesday, Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus announced the appointments of Representatives Price and Harold Dutton of Houston to the Sunset Advisory Commission. Price serves on the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, and Tourism and the House Committee on Natural Resources. Dutton is Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Affairs, and serves on the House Committee on Public Education. Price and Dutton are set to serve on the commission until Sept. 1, 2015.

"I am deeply honored by this appointment and thank the Speaker for his confidence. I am eager to begin working with Chairman Dennis Bonnen and the other Commission members in closely examining the numerous agencies undergoing sunset review. "It is vital that we examine and review each state agency and determine whether it should continue to exist, and if so, if it is operating as efficiently as it can. Optimal operation is especially important in these times of tight state budgets and it is what taxpayers expect at all times," Price said.

The Sunset Advisory Commission was created in 1977 and is a 12-member body of legislators and public members who are appointed by the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. The agency's goal is to identify and eliminate waste, duplication, and inefficiency in government agencies. The chairmanship and vice-chairmanship of the commission alternate every two years between the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate.

"I am pleased to appoint Chairman Dutton and Rep. Price to this important committee. They are strong supporters of transparency and efficiency measures, and will provide key leadership during the sunset process in the interim and during the 83rd session," Straus said.
